The Mets’ farm system is continuing to ascend, as they are now up to five players on MLB Pipeline’s updated Top 100 list, which is tied for the third most in baseball.
Those players are:
-
RHP Brandon Sproat: No. 40
-
SS/OF Jett Williams: No. 52
-
OF Drew Gilbert: No. 74
-
1B/OF Ryan Clifford: No. 87
-
OF Carson Benge: No. 99
Sproat struggled mightily down the stretch this season after receiving a promotion to Triple-A, but he was one of the biggest risers in the system, pitching to 3.40 ERA and 1.10 WHIP while striking out 131 batters across 116 innings.
The right-hander figures to start the year with Syracuse, but he has a shot to make his debut sooner rather than later.
Both Williams and Gilbert took a bit of a dip in the rankings after missing significant time due to injuries this year, but they still possess significant potential, and also should have a chance to show what they can do during spring training and at some point during the regular season.
The left-handed hitting Clifford put his power-hitting prowess on full display after receiving a promotion away from the pitching-friendly Maimonides Park, smacking 18 of his 19 homers and recording a .359 on-base percentage down the stretch with the Rumble Ponies.
Benge, the Mets’ first-round pick, is the newcomer on this list after getting off to a surging start to his professional career with three doubles and two homers over the final 15 games of the season in Low-A.
The 21-year-old outfielder has legitimate five-tool potential and he could be a fast riser through the system.
