Chris Drury’s Plan Blows Up In His Face With Trade For Rangers Reportedly Unlikely

While there is a ton of trade speculation involving the New York Rangers, a big move at this point does not seem likely to happen.

A little bit over a week ago, Rangers general manager Chris Drury sent out a league-wide memo stating he is interested in making moves and shaking up their roster with Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba’s names being indicated as potential options.

Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today dropped some interesting insight following New York’s 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Monday night.

“He let the rest of the league know that they are open for business, they are looking to make a trade,” Mercogliano said. “But what I’m hearing from sources is that it will be extremely difficult to pull off at this stage.”

This also comes after Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the Rangers want to tone down the heat and just pause before they jump into anything really too intense or that they might later regret.

Essentially, Drury’s decision to reach out to opposing general managers blew up in his face as it went public, creating a mess within the Rangers organization.

First Drury waived Barclay Goodrow over the summer, which was a surprise to everybody since he was a respected veteran presence in the locker room, and now he’s followed that up by shopping two of the team’s most impactful leaders without even informing them.

That is certainly one way to create distrust and dysfunction.

Drury is trying to backtrack and fix the mistake he made, but the damage is already done and he has nobody to blame but himself.
