Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt completed the third start of his rehab assignment Monday.
In Double-A Somerset’s game against the Mets’ Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Schmidt (right lat strain) threw 46 strikes on 70 pitches over 4.2 IP.
He allowed two runs on three hits (one home run) while striking out seven and walking none.
“Yeah it felt great,” said Schmidt, who added that he feels at full strength. “Obviously, continuing to build up the pitch count and getting out there deeper in games and good to kind of feel that feeling of getting out there for the fifth and getting the pitch count up and feeling healthy, so really happy with it.”
Last Wednesday, Schmidt allowed one run on three hits while striking out five and walking one in three innings with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Five days earlier, he began his rehab stint with Somerset and yielded one run on one hit — a solo homer — and struck out six to one walk over 3.2 IP.
“Been in a really good spot, physically, recovering really well and the stuff’s been really good — just really happy with what we’re able to do every five days right now and so excited to take it to the next level,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt, whom New York originally placed on the injured list in late May, is 5-3 with a 2.52 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 11 starts for the Yankees this season.
New York finishes its series at the Texas Rangers before a three-game set Friday through Sunday with the Cubs in Chicago, where Schmidt said that he expects to make his return.
“(Tuesday), I’ll go meet the team in Dallas and pitch this weekend in Chicago, for sure,” Schmidt said.
