Brett Baty will make his return to the lineup for Triple-A on Wednesday after a fractured finger kept him out for the last three weeks.
The 24-year-old is DHing and batting third.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza spoke about the infielder’s injury progress, which was initially feared to keep Baty out for the remainder of the season.
“I had a report a couple of days ago, he was scheduled to face live pitching in Port St. Lucie and the goal was for him to be in the lineup for Syracuse today which is the case,” Mendoza said. “So, he’s feeling good. I think there’s no limitations there, so he’s gonna play, get at-bats and we’ll see where we’re at after the season is over for them.”
Prior to Baty’s injury sustained on a hit-by-pitch, the 24-year-old had been heating up at the plate for Syracuse. Over his last 10 games, the infielder had five home runs with a 1.138 OPS.
Baty will now finish out the season in Triple-A before the Mets decide on what to do with the young player.
Asked if he could be an option as a major league call-up in the final two weeks of the season, Mendoza said, “Yeah, that’s in play.”
The Syracuse Mets’ final regular season game is on Sunday, Sept. 22.
