From an 0-5 to start the season to being named a finalist for the 2024 National League Manager of the Year Award, it was quite the first season for the Mets’ Carlos Mendoza.
Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers and Mike Shildt of the San Diego Padres were named the other two NL Manager of the Year finalists.
Thanks to Mendoza’s leadership, the Mets turned things around and went from being 11 games under .500 to having the best record in baseball from June 1 through the end of the regular season (65-40 record). The Mets also went an MLB-best 28-16 in one-run games and had 41 comeback wins during the 2024 season.
New York clinched a Wild Card berth on the last day of the regular season and went on to upset the Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies before falling to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in six games in the NLCS.
The last Mets manager to win the award was Buck Showalter in 2022 after leading New York to a 101-61 record.
The 2024 NL Manager of the Year Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
