The Mets have added another potential bullpen option, claiming right-handed reliever Austin Warren off waivers from the Giants.
Warren, who turns 29 in February, had a 1.69 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 10.2 innings (six appearances) for the Giants last season.
He debuted for the Angels in 2021 and spent three seasons in Los Angeles, posting a 3.55 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 38.0 innings.
Warren joins a large group of relievers who could be competing during spring training for the last few spots on the 26-man roster.
In addition to Warren, Huascar Brazoban, Tyler Zuber, Kevin Herget, Justin Hagenman, and Dylan Covey are among the pitchers who could be battling for a role in the bullpen.
The relief corps will be headlined by Edwin Diaz, and should also feature Dedniel Núñez, Reed Garrett, and Jose Butto.
Additionally, the Mets remain in the market for a high-end free agent reliever, SNY’s Andy Martino reported on Tuesday. Tanner Scott is among the options.
