Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat made his presence felt Sunday with the Syracuse Mets.
The Mets top-ranked prospect dazzled over 5.1 scoreless innings pitched against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six in his most dominant start since being called up to Triple-A last month.
The 23-year-old touched 99 mph seven times in his outing, overpowering the IronPigs hitters, who plated across four runs against Sproat his last start.
It was Sproat’s fifth start for Syracuse after beginning the season with High-A Brooklyn and working his way up through Double-A Binghamton, where he posted a 2.45 ERA over 11 starts this season.
Sproat was not the only one who shined for the Syracuse Mets on Sunday. Outfield prospect Drew Gilbert hit a home run in a 1-for-4 day at the plate – the lone run in a 1-0 Syracuse victory.
Luisangel Acuña, who was speculated as a potential September call-up, went 0-for-4 in the leadoff spot.
