The Mets’ first move of the 2024-25 offseason is a small one, with the team agreeing to a minor league deal with right-handed reliever Chris Devenski, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
The deal includes an invitation to big league spring training.
Devenski, 33, struggled in 19 appearances over 26.2 innings for the Rays this season, posting a 6.75 ERA (7.33 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP.
He had a 4.46 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 42.1 innings in 2023 while pitching for the Rays and Phillies.
During his nine-year big league career, which has also included stints with the Astros, Diamondbacks, and Angels, Devenski has a 3.98 ERA (3.92 FIP) and 1.13 WHIP with a strikeout rate of 9.3 per nine.
Devenski finished fourth in Rookie of the Year voting in 2016 after getting his first taste of big league action with the Astros, and was an All-Star for Houston in 2017, when he had a 2.68 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 80.2 innings.
