Yahoo Sports national MLB insider Russell Dorsey breaks down the keys for New York and Los Angeles as they face off in the National League Championship Series.
Video Transcript
The New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers both won compelling series to get to the NL CS for the Mets.
They defeated a juggernaut in the Philadelphia Phillies in four games while the Dodgers were taken to the brink by the San Diego Padres, but they were able to complete the comeback in a 21 series deficit to win the series three games to two.
Setting up.
What should be a great Nl CS?
Now, big key on the other side for the Dodgers will be their bullpen that was able to close out the NL Ds with 24 consecutive scoreless innings and with so many questions coming into the series about the Dodgers rotation, the bullpen carried the load and really was able to shut things down against San Diego after a wild first three games of the series.
Now, big key for the New York Mets in this upcoming series will be their offense that I was able to really get things going and get some big hits when they really needed it against the Phillies.
Pete Alonso will be a big part of that Alonso who came into the postseason, having some struggles hit a big home run in game three of the NL wildcard round to get the Mets to the next round.
And after seemingly getting himself out of a slump, he’s starting to look like his old self while there’s a lot of star power in this series with names like Landor Alonzo Betts Freeman and Otani.
The two people that we should keep an eye on in this series is Mets manager Carlos Mendoza and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts Mendoza in his first season, managing in the big leagues has led the Mets to this point while Roberts has been in these situations many times before and been managing in the postseason for almost a decade.
And that experience that L A has could be the key for them getting to the World Series for the first time since 2020.
