Sunday night’s series finale against the Phillies is a huge one for a number of different reasons.
The matchup not only holds big implications on the National League Wild Card race with Atlanta having already defeated the Miami Marlins, but it could also be Pete Alonso’s final home game in a Mets uniform.
This slugger is set to hit free agency for the first time in his career at the end of the offseason, so if New York is unable to earn themselves a home playoff matchup, this could be it for him in Queens.
Alonso told reporters pregame that he’s solely focused winnings, but he wasn’t sure what type of reception he’d get from the hometown fans.
Well, when the big man stepped to the plate against Zack Wheeler for his first at-bat in the bottom of the first, the orange and blue faithful greeted him with a rousing standing ovation.
