The seeds are set for the 2023 Big 12 Tournament after Saturday’s final games. Texas eliminated late-breaking drama in the Big 12 regular-season race with its loss to TCU early in the week, handing Kansas the outright conference crown ahead of the weekend in the process. Texas then broke what could have been a three-way tie for second with a 75-59 win over the visiting Jayhawks on Saturday to secure the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament.
Saturday’s mayhem with Kansas State and Baylor both losing ensured Kansas State the No. 3 seed and Baylor the No. 4 seed.
Because Iowa State stunned Baylor early in the day, it held on to the No. 6 seed that would have gone to Oklahoma State, which sets up even more drama in Kansas City next week with Bedlam basketball on the docket for opening festivities Wednesday between No. 7 seed Oklahoma State and No. 10 seed Oklahoma in Round 1. That also means Iowa State will face Baylor in the quarterfinals on Thursday after sweeping the Bears in the regular season.
We’ve had three different winners in the Big 12 tourney in three straight years with Iowa State, Texas and most recently Kansas winning it. With such a strong conference full of NCAA Tournament-caliber clubs, there’s a realistic chance we get a fourth in four years come Saturday.
