For the first time since 2013, UCLA is the No. 1 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament as the Bruins enter Championship Week in college basketball with aspirations of adding a league tournament title to their impressive resume. The last time the Bruins won the Pac-12 Tournament came in 2014, but they are favored to end that drought after developing into one of the nation’s top all-around squads under fourth-year coach Mick Cronin.
Recent history, however, suggests that anything is possible in this event. In 2021, No. 5 seed Oregon State began the Pac-12 Tournament on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble but won three games in three days to capture an automatic bid to the Big Dance. From there, the No. 12 seed Beavers made a stunning Elite Eight run.
The Bruins and No. 2 seed Arizona are clearly the league’s top teams from a national perspective, but another run like Oregon State’s surprise title in 2021 is always possible. Squads like No. 5 seed Washington State and No. 10 seed Stanford have pulled upsets this season, and others like No. 3 seed USC and No. 6 seed Arizona State still have realistic NCAA Tournament ambitions. Never count out No. 4 seed Oregon, either.
Games gets started Wednesday in Las Vegas, and we’ll be tracking all the action here as the Pac-12 Tournament begins.
