Second-round matchups for the SEC Tournament are set after the teams with less favorable seeding emerged victorious in both first-round games on Wednesday. No. 13 seed Ole Miss knocked off No. 12 seed South Carolina while No. 14 seed LSU edged No. 11 seed Georgia.
If those results were any indication, it could be a wild few days in Nashville as teams jockey for spots in the NCAA Tournament and look to build momentum entering the Big Dance. Up first Thursday is showdown between No. 8 seed Florida and No. 9 seed Mississippi State, which looks to escape the “Last Four In” of Jerry Palm’s Bracketology. Then, No. 5 seed Tennessee takes on Ole Miss, which is showing fight under interim coach Win Case.
In the evening wave, No. 7 seed Auburn plays No. 10 seed Arkansas. The Razorbacks are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and find their stride with star freshman guard Nick Smith back in the lineup after missing much of the season due to injury. Finally, in the nightcap, No. 6 seed Vanderbilt takes on LSU as the Commodores try to build their NCAA Tournament résumé.
