Julius Randle scored 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting in 20 minutes off the bench as the Knicks forward and Team LeBron lost the 2023 All-Star Game 184-175 to Team Giannis.
Randle was also 1 for 5 from long range, grabbed two rebounds and dished two assists.
Before Sunday’s action at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, the two teams picked via a draft. Randle went to Team LeBron, captained by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, as the 10th reserve taken out of the 14 total.
Randle got on the board with a dunk, assisted by Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox, at the first quarter’s 5:05 ark to put Team LeBron ahead 29-26. His final bucket came on a dunk, the assist coming from former Nets guard Kyrie Irving, in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 177-166.
The fourth quarter started with Team Giannis holding a 158-141 lead and the target score for the win being 182. Team LeBron cut the deficit to 181-175 on Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown‘s 3-pointer but Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard‘s triple moments later secured the Team Giannis win.
With the Knicks, who entered the All-Star break at 33-27 and sixth place in the Eastern Conference after this past Wednesday’s 122-101 win over the Atlanta Hawks, Randle is averaging 24.8 points and 10.8 rebounds this season.
Randle, who participated in Saturday’s 3-Point Contest, which Lillard won, returns to action with the Knicks in Friday’s 7 p.m. game at the Washington Wizards.
“First real All-Star Weekend in the books,” Randle said in a video posted to the Knicks’ social media, referencing his 2021 nod that came during a time in which the league was still rebounding from COVID restraints. “A lot going on, a lot, but a lot of fun. Family had a lot of fun. Hopefully, New York, I made you proud. Let’s get back to the rest of the season, man. I’m excited.”
