The Nuggets and Heat will meet in Denver on Sunday night for Game 2 of the 2023 NBA Finals.
Nikola Jokic posted his ninth triple-double of the playoffs in Game 1, finishing with 27 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds in Denver’s 104-93 victory. Jamal Murray contributed 26 points and 10 assists, and three other Nuggets players scored at least 10 points.
Jimmy Butler was surprisingly quiet in the Heat’s first Game 1 loss of the postseason. The All-NBA forward had only 13 points in 38 minutes, his lowest output in a playoff game this year.
Can Butler and his Miami teammates bounce back in Game 2? Or will Denver continue what has been a dominant run?

Predictably, Nikola Jokic is the high-point man for the Nuggets with 13 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
Max Strus (14 PTS) and Gabe Vincent (12 PTS) have picked up the slack from Jimmy Butler, who has ‘only’ 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
The Nuggets will be very happy with the way they have defended Butler. He’s hit some tough shots, but they have kept him off the foul line, which is critical to their success.
9:02 p.m. — The Heat put together a 8-0 run and bring this contest with seven: 50-43. They trail, but have found some offensive consistency.
8:56 p.m. — Braun dunks it down! He’s been a real change agent in this contest. He only has six points, but it feels like more.
8:51 p.m. — The switch has well and truly been flicked. Denver are making stops and hitting shots. They’re up 44-32 with 7:49 remaining in the half.
8:50 p.m. — That could have been disastrous! Murray stole the ball and went the other for the dunk. Max Strus swiped at the ball and collected Murray on the head. Murray got the dunk to go and was able to correct his body in the air and land safely. Close call.
8:47 p.m. — 21-point turnaround for the Nuggets! They lead 39-29 after an Aaron Gordon three.
8:44 p.m. — The Nuggets lead is short-lived as Kyle Lowry makes a clutch three against the run of play, but here comes Jeff Green with a massive three-point make off the Murray pass and they now lead 33-29.
8:40 p.m. — In his 98th Playoff game Jeff Green makes two free throws and the Nuggets have their first lead of the game 27-26!
8:39 p.m. — Christian Braun gets the first score of the quarter after he picks up his dribble and fades away in the post for two. Denver have dragged this right back to 26-25. They trail by just one point.
8:35 p.m. END OF THE FIRST QUARTER — Jamal Murray can’t get the long three to go and we head into the quarter-time break with the Heat up 26-23.
After going 0-of-10 in Game 1, Max Strus is the high-point man today with 12 points. All his points have come from the outside where he is 4-of-7.
8:31 p.m. — The Nuggets are starting to build a little offensive momentum with the Jokic midrange make and a Bruce Brown drive, but their problem is defence. They cannot stop the Heat right now. 26-19.
8:30 p.m. — Strus again from three! He has 12 points on four makes from the outside!
8:29 p.m. — Max Strus has nailed 3-of-4 threes in the early going and the Heat lead 21-12. The Nuggets are struggling to get Nikola Jokic involved.
8:24 p.m. — 7-0 in favor of Miami. Max Strus is on fire early.
8:23 p.m. — Kevin Love has not played in the last three Playoff games for Miami. Injecting him into the starting lineup is a huge experimental move by Heat coach Erik Spoelstra – let’s see how it plays out.
8:16 p.m. — Harold Rapp III delivers a stirring rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner on the saxophone as this game looks set to tip off!
8:13 p.m. — Denver’s lineup remains unchanged from Game 1
