One of the most anticipated rematches in British boxing is finally official.
Light heavyweights Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron will renew hostilities when they clash again in the main event April 20 at the BP Pulse Live Arena in Birmingham, England. The bout was announced by Ben Shalom’s BOXXER on Thursday morning.
Whittaker and Cameron will headline a show on a Sunday rather than the traditional Saturday night. This means the rematch is on Easter Sunday, with the Monday afterward being a public holiday in the U.K.
Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KOs) and Cameron (23-6-1, 10 KOs) previously fought on the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol undercard last October. Their bout ended in dramatic fashion when both men toppled over the ropes and outside the ring during the fifth round. As a result of the fall, Whittaker was unable to continue and the bout was halted.

Since four rounds had been completed, the fight went to a technical decision. One judge favored Whittaker by a point, the other scored it to Cameron by the same margin, and a third judge had it even, resulting in a split-decision draw.
Whittaker went into the fight as one of the top prospects in British boxing. His showboating drew comparisons to Naseem Hamed, helping him go viral earlier in 2024 while gaining millions of social media followers. Many fans felt that Whittaker had been exposed in the first fight, and the consensus was that the heavy underdog Cameron had gotten the better of the action through five rounds.
Furthermore, severe doubt was poured over Whittaker’s inability to continue, with some observers suggesting that the 2020 Olympic silver medallist was looking for a way out. This resulted in the derisive nickname “Quittaker” trending on social media in the hours following the event.
Although Whittaker didn’t officially lose in the ring, the loudest voices of the boxing world made their minds up about what they saw that night, so in some ways the rematch was the only option for Whittaker.
BOXXER also confirmed three bouts for the April 20 undercard. 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Frazer Clarke (8-1-1, 6 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time since his opening-round knockout loss at the hands of Fabio Wardley, also on the Beterbiev vs. Bivol undercard. Clarke will take on Ebenezer Tetteh (23-2, 20 KOs) in a heavyweight bout.
Rounding out the card, former European middleweight champion Tyler Denny (19-3-3, 1 KO) faces Elvis Ahorgah (13-3, 12 KOs), and Sam Eggington (35-9, 20 KOs) clashes with Lee Cutler (15-1, 7 KOs) in a ten-round domestic matchup at super welterweight.
