Darren Till is back to his old tricks to kick off 2025.
After Till’s original opponent Tommy Fury dropped out of their Misfits Boxing clash on Jan. 18, Anthony Taylor rose to save the day. With their showdown less than two weeks away, the two MMA veterans unexpectedly met virtually face-to-face on Tuesday’s “The Ariel Helwani Show” when Till crashed Taylor’s interview segment. It didn’t take long for a verbal sparring match to kick into high gear.
“I’m going to break your jaw when I see you,” Misfits light heavyweight champion Taylor told Till from the outset. “Watch. I promise you, I’m going to finish you inside three rounds, Darren. I’m going to torch you. And after I torture you, I’m going to torture Jake Paul. I don’t know if you’re scared or b*tch-made.
“If Tommy Fury couldn’t knock me out, what makes you think you going to knock me out?”
Like the one-time UFC title challenger Till, Taylor also left the world of MMA behind. He departed on a five-fight win streak culminating in a 2020 win over Chris Avila in Bellator, then turned his attention to boxing, debuting with a decision loss to Tommy Fury in 2021. Since then, Taylor has been active, boxing in 11 matches (some as exhibitions) and winning seven times, including four straight with Misfits. He scored a third-round knockout of Gabriel Silva, the son of UFC legend Anderson Silva, in his most recent outing.
Till, on the other hand, enters the boxing ring for only the second time when he faces Taylor. But from what he’s seen from Taylor’s career, “The Gorilla” is none too impressed.
“Do you want me to be totally honest?” Till asked Taylor. “I actually like you, but I’m not excited for this fight with you because you’re sh*t. I’m just going to beat you. You’re just sh*t. I’m sorry to be disrespectful, but you’re really, really sh*t. You fall over your feet, you wing punches. I don’t actually think you realize what you’re getting into with me. So I’m just not even going to talk, I’m just going to beat you. I respect you, and then I’m just going to move on because you’re really sh*t. I promise you, you’re sh*t.”
“I love it, Darren,” Taylor responded. “And everybody says that, and everybody — the last two opponents — got knocked the f*ck out. You saw what Gabe Silva did, Anderson Silva’s boy. You saw what Anderson Silva’s boy did — knocked him smooth out with a right hand.”
“Anderson Silva’s child is about 9 years of age,” Till shot back. “You fought him. You fought a Tommy [Fury] at 84kgs — Tommy is sh*t. You haven’t fought anyone in boxing or MMA. I, on the other hand, have fought only elite fighters.”
“I haven’t even been training because you’re sh*t,” Till added. “You’re proper sh*t, Anthony. I’m sorry. You’re sh*t. What I’m doing is right. I’ve [signed] to fight with you. You can just accept the little 50K, what they are giving you. Be happy. You’re going to run as soon as I jab you on the nose, and then you’re going to plan, do whatever, and I’m probably just going to wear you down and knock you out, and it’s all good.”
Till claimed 20 potential names were thrown his way for replacement opponents from Misfits promoter Mams Taylor. Till said it didn’t matter who, just whether or not they could make weight with the short notice. Taylor countered, stating Till simply knew the Misfits champ was “the best of the best.”
Regarding his overall experience, Taylor admitted Till will be a tough test, but he doesn’t believe that makes the Liverpudlian the best talent Taylor has fought; he instead rewarded Fury with that label.
Regardless, Till made it clear that his own time for talk ended when Fury withdrew from their match.
“He doesn’t believe me because he’s one of them dumb Americans who just spouts sh*t. Your fist is going hit my face — like, what is that?” Till said, repeating back one of Taylor’s lines.
“I am not getting into it with this weirdo. I’ll just wait until I’ve beaten him, and then we’ll just sort it, then he’ll just be a happier man. He’s getting his 50K, and it’s all good.”
The main event matchup between Till and Taylor is scheduled for 195 pounds, five pounds less than Till’s boxing debut against Mohammad Mutie in July 2024 — a second-round stoppage win. Till’s match with Fury was initially set for 205 pounds.
Amused by the banter, Taylor was more concerned about Till’s weight, as the heaviest he’s weighed in for a fight was 185 pounds in his Fury encounter.
“I just think it’s hilarious because he really thinks he’s going to come and beat me at the weight that he’s coming at,” Taylor said. “I make things happen, and I’m going to make it happen. And I’m going to finish this dude inside three rounds. It doesn’t matter what he has planned.
“If you want to kick, I’m going to kick back. If you want to elbow, I’m going to elbow, punch — whatever you want to do, I’ll do it 10 times worse. Like I said, in a couple of years, I’m going to be one of the biggest names in the scene, and I am now because I put in the hard work. I can’t be denied the hard work I put in. I train hard to make this sh*t look easy.”
