Yuri Lowenthal was previously the only official name locked in for Marvel Rivals, with the actor reprising his role as Spider-Man. Lowenthal has previously voiced and provided motion capture for all Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man titles. Lowenthal hasn’t just lent his voice to Spidey. In 2024 alone, he’s featured in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Alone in the Dark, Helldivers 2, and Persona 3 Reload. He also appeared in Mortal Kombat 1, Diablo 4, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Bayonetta 3—all big titles that barely scratch the surface of his 27-year legacy that began with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in 1997.
There are other huge names here, too. Nolan North is a video game icon, and he’s already voiced Rocket Raccoon in Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy game. His long list of roles includes Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, Deadpool in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Iron Man in Marvel’s Avengers, and Modi in God of War—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Troy Baker is also here as Loki. It almost seems like a requirement of your triple-A game to have the star voice actor squeezed in there somewhere. Meanwhile, Laura Bailey provides the voice for Black Widow, a role she’s previously covered for several LEGO Marvel projects and Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers title.
Critical Role fans should notice a pair of familiar names too: Liam O’Brien as Doctor Strange and Travis Willingham as both Thor and Doctor Doom. In addition to their work in online TTRPG shows, both famed actors have voiced multiple characters in several different animated Marvel properties, in addition to work elsewhere, like O’Brien providing the voice of Golum in the Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, or Willingham as Roy Mustang in the English version of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
The final hero revealed for launch was Wolverine, voiced by Steve Blum, and the announcement was met with universal praise. Blum has voiced Wolverine on many occasions in animation in the past, and is a legendary actor for roles such as Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop. He also lends his talents as Venom in Rivals.
