A fan-favorite for her wild personality, Jinx is one of the leading girls in Arcane. Her story is one that will stay with me for years to come as it teaches us the importance of love, family, and loss. But just hold old is Jinx throughout Arcane?
Here is our rundown on Jinx’s age in Arcane season one and two.
Warning for major spoilers throughout
How old is Jinx in Arcane season one?
Arcane season one introduced us to the sisters we all grew to love. Powder, aged 9- to 11- years old, alongside her sister Vi (assumed to be 14- to 16- years old) would unfairly loss their loved ones time and time again at their young ages. These guesses are based on their appearance and behavior, where it’s clear from act one that Powder has a naïve innocence in every action she makes. Whereas Vi acts reckless and turns her emotions into fury, believing she can protect Vander, much like any ordinary teenager would think.
Dates aren’t specified throughout Arcane. While the time jump in act two is obvious, we can only assume that seven to 10 years had passed since Vander’s death and Vi’s capture. Now in the hands of Silco, her father figure is passed from one man to another, where her views are shifted to now match her new identity called Jinx (a name given by Vi).
With the time skip in mind, we see Jinx is somewhere between 16 and 18 years old throughout the events of act two and three. This makes Vi a young adult at this point, between 21- and 23- years old. A five year age gap between the sisters matches the appearance we’re shown when comparing them from act one to three.
How old is Jinx in Arcane season two?
Jinx is approximately 16- to 18-years old in the second season and this remains the same to the very end. The alternate timeline where Ekko and Powder connect demonstrates a more mature, older version of Jinx, but full of guilt from losing her sister. Based on their appearance, we presume Ekko and Powder are the same age.
Three years after the release of Arcane season one, we observed the impact Jinx had on her assault against the Council. You may have anticipated another time jump, expecting a similar format to the first season but this did not take place. Instead, the events that followed were a continuation and we saw the repercussions to Jinx’s actions following Silco’s death. While we get a glimpse into What Could Have Been in episode seven where peace filled the undercity—all at one major character’s sacrifice—Jinx/Powder remain the same age as she was last seen in season one.
How age impacted Jinx’s character development
Jinx’s journey is one filled with loss. Losing her biological parents in childhood, her father and brother figures as a consequence of her actions, Powder’s relationship with Vi is tethered. Now without a family, she saw refuge in Silco, the main antagonist in Arcane season one, who clearly cared for Vander’s “daughter.” Finding place in his heart for her, Silco brings Powder up as Jinx, a twisted form that only fuels his ideologies about Zaun.
The creation of Jinx is the direct result of losing her family and the guilt she feels for losing them. While Vi tried desperately hard to return to Powder’s side, that part of her is long gone, and replaced by Jinx. Her guilt over Claggor and Milo shifted to Silc where she saw visions of him as her father who’s meant to guide her onto the right path.
But it isn’t until she met Isha that she learned what Vi knew all along. That feeling of protection for something good in the world is ripped away from her, just like it was for Vi when Powder fell into Silco’s embrace. Taken away by Marcus, Vi couldn’t save Powder from going down the wrong path. Jinx experienced just this as she became the older sister to the mute Isha—an unspoken hero of Arcane— who saved Jinx’s life while simultaneously ending Vander’s (Warwick) pain for the final time.
Not far off from Powder’s age in Arcane season one act one, Isha had the same hero mentality of Powder. But instead of getting others killed, she sacrificed herself for her older sister. This is yet another layer of loss that hits Jinx hard, making her want to give up until Ekko pulled her back from that suffocating abyss once again, doing something her guilt-filled visions couldn’t.
Jinx became a unique mix of old and new. She is now neither Powder or Jinx.
