Aaron Rodgers completed 23 of 36 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns to one interception as the Jets capped a 5-12 season with Sunday’s 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins.
He ends his first full season as New York’s quarterback 368-for-584 passing with 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in 17 games while sorting what is next.
“We have the conversations in the next few days,” Rodgers said. “Whatever happens out of there, I don’t know if anything will be definitive coming out of those. But I just need some time away to think about my future in the game, and my future here if they want me to be a part of the next phase or if they’re ready to move on. Either way, I’m thankful for my two years here.”
Rodgers added that he is “looking forward to those conversations with” Jets brass, including chairmen Woody and Christopher Johnson, while his future remains unclear.
“Truthfully, I don’t know,” Rodgers said. “… It feels good to be able to do some of the things last five or six weeks I knew I was capable of doing even at 40, 41.
“But either way, I won’t be upset or offended, whatever they decide to do — if they want to move on, if I still want to play. And if not, I’ll let them know at some point if that’s the case.”
Rodgers, whom the Jets acquired in an April 2023 trade with the Green Bay Packers, missed his first season after a torn Achilles just four plays into New York’s opener against the Buffalo Bills. He is under contract for the 2025 season and turns 42 next December.
“It takes a concerted and intentional effort to make change,” said Rodgers, who was a four-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl XLV champion with the Packers from 2005-22. “It takes people in the same direction. It takes top-down focus to be able to create a culture that where winning is the standard, not the hope. And I put my heart into this, and I wanted it really bad. And it didn’t work this year. We came up short. And I played four plays last year.
“So it’s overall disappointing. But the beauty in this game is that every year is a new year, and the opportunity to change and make changes and be a part of the solution is going to be out there. So whether I’m back or whether it’s the guys that they got or new guys or whatever, the focus has to be, ‘How can I, player, be a part of the solution, not the problem?’
“I have a lot of love for this organization, and I hope it gets turned around. If I’m back, part of it, then I’ll do everything in my power to get it turned around.
