There’s been plenty discussion on college football’s top freshmen during the first two weeks of the regular season, but what about the sport’s breakout sophomores? 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins and national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna recently discussed the improvement of a select few second-year performers. The duo looked at four highly-rated recruits from the class of 2023 who are starting to reach their potential in 2024, including Alabama running back Justice Haynes and Auburn defensive lineman Keldric Faulk.
Haynes led Alabama with 102 rushing yards on four carries in its season-opening win over Western Kentucky. His day was highlighted by an 85-yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter, the longest Alabama scoring play since 2021. He ripped off another big play against USF in Week 2.
Faulk turned heads back in July when he was one of the three Auburn representatives at SEC Media Days, a high honor for a sophomore player. He’s shined for the Tigers through two weeks, already exceeding his sack and tackles for loss numbers from a season ago.
