New England Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was one of the more productive receivers for the team, even as he battled injuries. A new report detailed just how serious those injuries were.
Meyers recorded 67 catches for 804 yards and six touchdowns. The injury issues started early for the receiver, who was hurt during New England’s second game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He then missed two games. The receiver would only miss one more game over the course of the season, as he dealt with a concussion.
He would go on to be productive in those games, including recording a seven-catch, 111-yard performance against the Detroit Lions in October.
Nevertheless, the toll of the injuries began to rear its ugly head as the season wore on. Meyers was not the only player, as running back Rhamondre Stevenson felt the impact of the season as well.
The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan and Karen Guregian detailed the roller-coaster ride that was the 2022 Patriots season. They peeled back the curtain on some of the injury issues Meyers and his teammates were facing.
Callahan and Guregian wrote:
“Meyers, who according to sources played through a small tear in his knee midseason, finished as the team’s leading receiver for a third straight year. Stevenson totaled 156 more touches than the next closest skill-position player, an unprecedented gap under Belichick.”
Meyers is set to be a free agent this offseason, as the organization will have to make decisions on several players. Nevertheless, this is a testament to the toughness displayed by the wide receiver.
