James Franklin and Penn State had been on the outside looking in on several four-team College Football Playoff brackets. Penn State football roster news
Quarterback Drew Allar announced his decision to return for his senior year on Dec. 16. However, strong performances in the first two rounds of the playoffs, combined with a relatively weak 2025 NFL Draft class at quarterback, could at least make him re-examine his decision before the final deadline.
Backup quarterback Beau Pribula transferred to Missouri in December, leaving Ethan Grunkemeyer, Jack Lambert and Jaxon Smolik as the other returning quarterbacks. Quarterback Bekkem Kritza is one of 27 incoming freshmen in the 2025 recruiting class.
The Nittany Lions will have big shoes to fill at both defensive end and tight end with Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren both projected to be first-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. They also need to upgrade at receiver after that entire position was held without a reception in the semifinal loss to Notre Dame.
Matthew Outten, the No. 10 wide receiver in the 2025 class via 247Sports, is the top incoming freshman option. The Nittany Lions also have already added receivers Devonte Ross (Temple) and Kyron Hudson (USC) via the portal. Get more football roster updates at Lions247.
