With head coach Steve Sarkisian at the helm, the Texas Longhorns have returned to elite status in college football. While the 2023 and 2024 teams will be remembered for their deep runs, the 2025 Texas football roster could be the most intriguing yet. Led by up-and-coming stars such as quarterback Arch Manning, running back Quintrevion Wisner, receiver Ryan Wingo and defensive end Colin Simmons, the Longhorns are expected to be among the favorites in the 2026 college football national championship odds.
With the Texas football offseason now underway following its loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals, underclassmen will have just a few days to decide on NFL futures or entering the transfer portal. Texas football roster news
With four straight top-five recruiting classes, highlighted by the top-ranked class in 2025, Sarkisian has built a program capable of reloading on an annual basis. The Longhorns could see as many as a dozen players picked in the 2025 NFL Draft, likely including quarterback Quinn Ewers. Manning, however, has the talent and pedigree to potentially be an upgrade.
The next generation of the famous Manning quarterback family, Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, played well in place of Ewers when he was injured in 2024. Top receivers Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond could move on to the NFL, but the Longhorns are stacked with young talent such as Wingo, DeAndre Moore Jr. and incoming five-star freshman Kaliq Lockett.
Sarkisian has largely built through recruiting, but he’s been strategic in the transfer portal, landing key pieces such as Ewers and Bond in recent seasons. The Longhorns have added four players in the portal thus far in this class and have lost 10, most notably receiver Johntay Cook, a former five-star recruit who saw limited playing time this season.
