Texas and Arizona State are squaring off Wednesday in the Peach Bowl during the first of the day’s three College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchups. The game pits the Longhorns, an SEC power that made last year’s four-team CFP, against a Big 12 upstart that shocked the nation by reaching the playoff after a 3-9 season in 2023. Not only did the Sun Devils reach the CFP under second-year coach Kenny Dillingham, but they secured a first-round bye with their obliteration of Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship Game.
That win made the Sun Devils one of the four highest-ranked conference champions in the field and earned them a week of rest while Texas hosted Clemson in a first-round game. The Longhorns outlasted the Tigers 38-24 behind huge performances from running backs Tre Wisner and Jaydon Blue. The dynamic duo of Texas backs will be pitted against ASU star running back Cam Skattebo as the teams jockey for a spot in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10.
