No. 11 Clemson has been cruising since its Week 1 loss to Georgia, and it will get another ACC test this weekend when Louisville comes to Death Valley. The Cardinals have had an inconsistent season, but they have the pieces capable of springing an upset.
Since getting blown out by Georgia to open their season, the Tigers have gone 6-0 with a plus-164 point differential. Clemson is simply hammering its opponents, and that has coincided with offensive improvement. Quarterback Cade Klubnik is up to 1,836 passing yards with 20 touchdowns to just three interceptions.
On the ground, Phil Mafah has been the workhorse, carrying the ball 105 times for 682 yards and six touchdowns. He and Klubnik have really been the driving forces behind the turnaround on that side of the ball.
Louisville’s season hasn’t gone smoothly to this point, but it has an opportunity to score a massive win this weekend. The Cardinals just won a 31-27 nail-biter against Boston College, and turnovers kept the Eagles within striking distance all game. Those mistakes can’t happen on the road in Death Valley.
If quarterback Tyler Shough can eliminate the interceptions — he threw two last week — Louisville could stick around with Clemson. Shough has now thrown for over 300 yards in three of his last four games, and this Cards offense looks dangerous when he’s locked in.
