Cameron Young began the third round at the 2024 Travelers Championship buried beneath dozens of golfers on the leaderboard all vying for the tournament championship.
He ended it not only atop that leaderboard, but with a nice piece of history associated with his name. The former Wake Forest golfer turned in one of the most impressive rounds not only of his career, but on the PGA Tour this year, shooting an 11-under 59 Saturday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
It was just the 13th time in PGA Tour history that a player recorded a sub-60 round, and the first since Scottie Scheffler in 2020. Young’s 59 was one shy of tying the course record at TPC River Highlands, which Jim Furyk set with a 58 in 2016 at the Travelers Championship — the lowest round in PGA Tour history.
