President Donald Trump has hosted several LIV Golf tournaments at his golf courses throughout the past few years, but according to Rory McIlroy, Trump is not a fan of the Saudi circuit’s format.
The Northern Irishman told the media during his pre-tournament news conference ahead of this week’s Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines that he played with Trump in January before his inauguration.
“It was great. Yeah, it was really good, it was really good. I thought we had a good discussion. I learnt that he’s not a fan of the LIV format. I was like, but you’ve hosted their events. He was like, yeah, but it doesn’t mean that I like it. So I think he’s on the Tour’s side.”
Trump National Doral is set to host LIV’s Miami event from April 4-6, the week before the Masters.
On Wednesday, McIlroy walked the fairways of Torrey Pines’ South Course alongside Donald Trump Jr. during the event’s pro-am.
