With a week until the season-opening event in Saudi Arabia, the LIV Golf League rosters for 2025 are officially set.
Tom McKibbin, who had long been rumored to signed with LIV Golf, was officially announced as the final member of Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII on Wednesday, finalizing the league’s rosters ahead of LIV Golf Riyadh.
McKibbin is the biggest offseason signing for LIV Golf, though his name likely isn’t notable to those in the United States. He grew up playing at the same club Rory McIlroy did in Holywood, Northern Ireland, and has looked up to the world No. 3 since he was a youngster. The two have become good friends, and last year when McKibbin locked up his PGA Tour card after finishing in the top 10 of the DP World Tour season-long standings, perhaps no one was happier for McKibbin than McIlroy.
Earlier this month at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, McIlroy said he talked plenty with McKibbin about the decision whether to sign with LIV Golf and he would be disappointed if his protege decided to give up his spot on the PGA Tour.
“Yeah, look, it would be — personally for me it would be a little disappointing if it were to happen but again, it’s not — I made it perfectly clear: I am not going to stand your way if you need to make the decision you feel like you need to make for yourself,” McIlroy said. “But at the same time, I feel like he’s giving up a lot to not really benefit that much, you know.”
McKibbin, only 22 years old, is ranked 106th in the world and is one of six newcomers on the LIV Golf League in 2024, joining Ben Campbell, Luis Masaveu, Frederik Kjettrup, Yubin Jang and Max Lee, who earned his spot via the LIV Golf Promotions event.
LIV Golf begins its season next week under the lights.
