The PGA Tour released a statement Thursday that has added another incremental update to the Tour’s ongoing negotiations with the PIF, which runs LIV Golf.
No, there’s no announcement of a resolution. Yes, details were sparse. But for those hoping for a unification of the two rival leagues, perhaps there’s a sliver of hope.
Here’s the latest:
An Update from the PGA TOUR Regarding Working Session at White House
“We have just concluded a constructive working session at the White House with President Trump and H.E. Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, we have initiated a discussion about the reunification of golf. We are committed to moving as quickly as possible and will share additional details as appropriate.
We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification. Most importantly, we all want the best players in the world playing together more often and are committed to doing all we can to deliver that outcome for our fans.”
The Tour says the statement came from PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, Player Director Tiger Woods and Player Director Adam Scott.
Woods was seen at the White House earlier in the day for a reception in the East Room for Black History Month. Golfweek‘s Adam Schupak reporting Thursday morning confirmed this latest meeting with Trump, believed to be the second one he’s been involved in with the golf tours.
Eight days ago, Monahan spoke with reporters at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
“I think the meeting ultimately gets us one step closer to a deal being done, but there’s a lot more work to do. Hopefully, you sense my enthusiasm as I talk about it today,” Monahan said about the first meeting with Trump.
