PGA Tour: Who are the First Coast, South Georgia players in this week’s Genesis Invitational?

The PGA Tour will play its third Signature Event of the season this week with the Genesis Invitational, at the Torrey Pines Golf Club, in La Jolla, Calif. The elite field of 72 players (including 46 of the top 50 on the World Golf Rankings) will be chasing a $20 million purse when the first round begins on Thursday.

Players from the First Coast and Georgia’s Golden Isles have had mixed success in the first two Signature Events, The Senty that opened the 2025 season at Kapalua, and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

There has been only one player to finish among the top 10, Ponte Vedra Beach resident Billy Horschel with a tie for ninth at Pebble Beach, and only one other player has finished among the top 20, Andrew Novak of St. Simons Island, Ga., at Pebble.

Some of the scores have been pretty bad, and it’s to their fortune that the first two Signature Events were no-cut. Nico Echavarria of Ponte Vedra had the best finish among local players at The Sentry with a tie for 32nd (Horschel finished 51st) and Brian Harman of St. Simons Island was last.

After Horschel and Novak, the next-best finish among area players at Pebble Beach was a tie for 33rd by Keith Mitchell of St. Simons.

They should be forewarned: this week has a 36-hole cut, to the low-50, plus ties, and anyone within 10 shots of the lead.

Golden Isles: Harris English, Ben Griffin, Brian Harman, Andrew Novak, J.T. Poston, Davis Thompson.

Purse: $20 million ($4 million and 700 FedEx Cup points to the winner).

Defending champion: Hideki Matsuyama.

TV: Golf Channel (Thursday-Friday, 4-8 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 1-3 p.m.); CBS (Saturday, 3-7 p.m.; Sunday, 3-6:30 p.m.).

Purse: $1.7 million ($270,000 to the winner).

Defending champion: Stephen Ames.
