The NHL trade deadline is less than two months away, so chatter around the league is undoubtedly picking up. The Buffalo Sabres are one of the most-talked-about teams right now, and it is easy to understand why.

The Sabres have a 16-22-5 record and are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Thus, some changes are expected to be made, and two of their stars are continuing to create trade speculation.
TSN released their first Trade Bait board of the 2024-25 campaign, and Sabres stars Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram made the cut. Cozens was listed at the No. 22 spot on TSN’s list, while Byram was right after the big center at No. 23.
Seeing Cozens be named one of the NHL’s top trade candidates by TSN is very understandable. He has generated a lot of interest around the NHL. Insider Elliotte Friedman also recently reported that sources informed him that the big center was close to being traded to the Detroit Red Wings.
Cozens, 23, has had an underwhelming season for his standards, posting nine goals, 12 assists, and a minus-17 rating in 43 games. However, when noting that he is young and had 31 goals and 68 points back in 2022-23, he is still a very valuable trade chip.
Like Cozens, Byram has also been discussed often in the rumor mill. The 23-year-old defenseman is a pending restricted free agent, and questions about his future in Buffalo have come up. The Sabres also have two left-shot defensemen in Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power who they are building their blueline around.
Byram is having a strong season with the Sabres, posting five goals, 22 points, 45 hits, and 65 blocks in 43 games. He is on pace to set new career highs offensively, so trading him would come with clear risk.
