At morning skate today, head coach Luke Richardson updated the press on one of the significant summer acquisitions: Alec Martinez. Richardson said, ” He isn’t too far away.” The coach added that he expects Martinez to join the team on the upcoming five-game road trip.
The 37-year-old left-handed defender signed a one-year deal worth $4-million in the off-season. In four games this season, he has had one assist while averaging 21:02 ice time per game.
This morning he was on the extra defense pairing with Isaak Phillips. Because of that, there is a good chance he will be sent down to Rockford fairly soon.
Artyom Levshunov revealed to the media that he had been skating for a whole month before he realized that his foot was fractured. This made the injury worse, and postponed his return to regular skating.
It’s good to see a few players close to making returns to game action. Given what we know from this morning’s skate, we could expect Martinez to play on Saturday at the earliest. Additionally, Levshunov could return to play for the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday, as well.
The Blackhawks play the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 7:15 Central Time.
