CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks took on the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night at United Center. It was a rough game for them as they are now losers of three in a row and five of their last six.
It didn’t start terribly for Chicago as they took a 1-0 lead at 17:03 of the first period. The only problem is that they let the Ducks tie it two minutes later. Instead of building on a 1-0 lead going into the intermission, they were all knotted up.
Chicago’s goal was scored by Jason Dickinson. His third of the season was assisted by Connor Bedard and TJ Brodie. Bedard made a beautiful pass and Dickinson didn’t miss with a brilliant shot.
Early in the second (3:54), Dickinson scored again. This time, it was a no-look pass by Connor Bedard that set him up. Teurvo Teravainen collected the secondary assist on this beautiful goal. Bedard and Dickinson may have something special together after one game paired up.
The Hawks took that 2-1 lead into the third period. They were trying to end a bad stretch of lackluster third-period hockey against a Ducks team that is notoriously bad in the final frame.
Unfortunately, the Hawks allowed Trevor Zegras to set up a nice Alex Killorn goal at 5:10 of the third. They killed a Ducks penalty right before this goal was scored but they were unable to end the play and get the puck out of the zone. It ended up in the back of the net.
At 9:38, Leo Carlsson scored the go-ahead goal for Anaheim to make it 3-2. The 2023 second overall pick, one selection after Connor Bedard, scored what ended up being the game-winning goal.
This is a bad loss for the Blackhawks. There’s no other way to put it. Connor Bedard was able to put up two points on beautiful passes but the team couldn’t close it out for two standings points.
Anaheim played an elite Dallas Stars team one night prior and beat them. You’d think that this was a trap game for the Ducks considering they aren’t all that good either but the Hawks were soft in the third. Their inability to wear down the Ducks when they might not have their legs cost them the game.
They were finally able to score more than one regulation goal but two wasn’t enough either. Arvid Soderblom was fine in the net but he didn’t get the support (both offensively and defensively) that he needed when it mattered most.
Chicago needs a big win in any way that they can get it. With the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers coming to town for a tilt on Thursday, it won’t be easy. You can imagine what that type of win would do for their confidence going forward.
