The Rockford IceHogs have been invading the Chicago Blackhawks roster lately. That tends to happen (an AHL team sending a lot of guys to the NHL) during rebuilding seasons.
The latest addition to the roster for Chicago is going to be Landon Slaggert. They called him up from Rockford ahead of their game against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night.
Landon Slaggert was drafted in the 3rd round (79th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft and he has been working hard to make it since.
Slaggert won’t dress against the Wild. However, they have a three-game road trip coming up so they wanted to get that 13th forward on the roster. Trading Taylor Hall away and Craig Smith going on IR without an NHL player coming back left that hole.
Slaggert, through 39 games this year with Rockford, has 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points. He has been a productive player since during pro after a college hockey career at Notre Dame. Now, he should get some ice at the NHL level for a few games. If he proves himself, he may stick around.
