The St. Louis Blues secured a shootout win against the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 20. Blues captain Brayden Schenn made an impact in the contest, scoring the club’s first goal.
With this goal, Schenn is only continuing to stay red-hot. The 33-year-old extended his point streak to four games, with three goals and five points over that span. He was already dominating before his streak, too, as he has six goals and 11 points over his last 11 games.
Schenn producing offense so frequently is coming at a perfect time for the Blues. The Central Division squad is in a tight race for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Thus, they need as many points as possible, and Schenn playing at his best will help with that.
At the time of this writing, the Blues trail the Calgary Flames by one point for the final wild-card spot, with Calgary having three games in hand. In addition, the Blues are tied with the Vancouver Canucks but have played two more games than them. Thus, they need top players like Schenn to deliver, and he undoubtedly is right now.
It will be fascinating to see if Schenn can maintain his strong offensive play from here. In 48 games this season, the 2009 fifth-overall pick has 11 goals, 29 points, 114 hits, and a minus-1 rating.
