Hull, the father of former star Brett Hull, played in the NHL for 17 seasons between the Chicago Blackhawks, Hartford Whalers and Winnipeg Jets.
With his flowing blonde hair and blistering slap shot, “The Golden Jet” took Chicago by storm in the late ’50s and throughout the ‘60s. Hull spent 15 seasons with the Blackhawks, winning the Stanley Cup with the franchise in 1961.
His wicked slapper helped him lead the NHL in goals seven times during his career, which is the second-most out of any player. Hull was the first player to score more than 50 goals in a season, a feat that he would accomplish two times in his NHL career while also scoring exactly 50 twice.

In addition to being the Blackhawks all-time goal leader, Hull won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s MVP twice and the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading point scorer three times.
He was named to NHL’s 100 Greatest Players list in 2017 and has long been regarded as one of the best left wingers ever to play the game.
NHL world reacts to Bobby Hull’s death
For as great of a player Hull was on the ice, his issues off the ice are well-documented.
Hull was accused by two of his wives of domestic violence. He also was quoted by a Russian newspaper in 1998, allegedly saying that Adolf Hitler “had some good ideas.” Hull denied making the comment, calling it “false and defamatory.”
As a result of his controversies, the Blackhawks removed Hull from his role as team ambassador.
Given Hull’s polarizing status as a person, it led to social media being split in regard to his passing. However, a number of people offered their condolences upon the news of his death.

Despite having to miss the start of the Jets first season because the NHL went to court to stop his signing with the WHA. Bobby Hull still managed to score 51 goals with #50 coming in Chicago against the Cougars. pic.twitter.com/gmu4c8suT3

The ‘Golden Jet’ Bobby Hull has died. He was a man of his word and when the WHA came through with the million dollars he asked for, figuring they’d go away, he left the Blackhawks and the NHL to sign with the Winnipeg Jets https://t.co/G3e9dEMArK
