On Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they had signed winger Drew O’Connor to a two-year extension worth $5 million. The new contract for O’Connor carries a $2.5 million cap hit and will keep O’Connor in Vancouver until 2027. The 26-year-old was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 31, 2025, and has two goals in four games with the Canucks.

In a press release, GM Patrik Allvin wrote, “Drew has really made a good first impression since joining our team from Pittsburgh at the beginning of the month. We like his size, speed and ability to get in on the forecheck and hound pucks. Our staff also feel confident that they can help Drew take his game to another level and we are excited to see what the future holds for him with the Vancouver Canucks.”
While O’Connor has only played four games with the Canucks, he has already had a positive impact on the lineup. Before the 4 Nations Face-Off, he was playing in the top six alongside Filip Chytil and Brock Boeser. During his first four games, O’Connor also has four hits and two blocked shots while averaging 13:57 a night.
Vancouver returns from the 4 Nations Face-Off break on Saturday when they take on the Vegas Golden Knights. This will be the second of four meetings between these Pacific Division rivals, with Vegas taking the first game 3-1. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm PT from T-Mobile Arena.
