Canadiens goaltender Cayden Primeau has been terrific since he was sent down to Laval. Sometimes demotions can be demotivating for a short time but that was never the case for the netminder. He deserves a lot of credit for that, which shows he’s a battler.
Primeau was just named AHL Goaltender of the Month. That’s a nice honor for the veteran. He posted an 8-0-0 record with a 1.73 goals against average and a .932 save percentage. Those numbers are tremendous and it shows that he is still very good at his craft at the AHL level but we still don’t know about him in the NHL.
At this point in time, he can get an injury call up this season but the team should try and include him in a trade. I think he’s a player that needs a change of scenery to possibly try it all over again with another team. Goalies are resilient and this would be good for both parties. Primeau may get some NHL games in the future somewhere else.
With Jacob Fowler being ready to play at least at the AHL level to start, there isn’t much room for Primeau next season. Jakub Dobes might be the the NHL backup next season and if that’s the case then anybody can be the AHL back up. This is what happens on rebuilding teams. Goaltending is so important and the Canadiens have the framework of a solid group in the near future and when that happens fans will be very excited.
