The Bruins are keeping their top offensive talent long-term.
David Pastrnak agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Boston through 2031. He was originally set to be an unrestricted free agent following the season before reaching an agreement to stay with the Bruins.
Pastrnak, 26, has been with the Bruins since the team made him a first-round pick in 2014. He made his NHL debut during the 2014-15 season and scored 10 goals for Boston.
Since then, he has developed into one of the league’s top scorers. He led the NHL in goals during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season with 48 and has notched 42 — second-most in the league behind only Conor McDavid — during the 2022-23 season.
Keeping Pastrnak was critical for the Bruins, who possess an aging core comprised of Patrice Bergeron (37), David Krejci (36) and Brad Marchand (34), and they paid handsomely to do so.
Here’s just how much Pastrnak will be making over the duration of his contract.
