Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov and his KHL team SKA St. Petersburg got back to their winning ways when they took on Barys on Feb. 13 after dropping a decision to Dynamo Msk on Feb. 11.
In the 5-2 win over Barys, Demidov had a primary assist on SKA’s second goal and saw 19:17 of ice time. The youngster now has 46 points in 54 games and is 11th in the KHL points ranking.
SKA still has 13 games to play, including one on Saturday against Neftekhimik a team that’s in a fight for a playoffs spot. Demidov’s SKA is currently fifth in the western conference and has an 18-point lead over the Kunlun Red Star, the ninth place team in the west.
In an interview with RG.org recently, the Great Eight, Alexander Ovechkin had something to say about Demidov:
Work, and everything will be fine. The most important thing is not showing off. Because when anyone shows off, it can come back to bite you in a big way.
Words of wisdom from the man who used to like to show off and celebrate quite a bit, I guess that’s what gaining in maturity does. Although to be fair, Demidov doesn’t seem to be a show off, from all accounts, he loves to learn and he works hard, on and off the ice. Ovechkin, who’s still chasing Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal scoring record in the NHL, believes Demidov could also become a great player as long as he focusses on the task at hand.
I don’t believe this will be a concern at all in Montreal, the Canadiens will surround its prized prospect with the best people possible and if he spends any time with Lane Hutson, it should be all about hockey judging by what the rookie defender is getting up to during the NHL break.
