On Jan. 24, former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo returned to the NHL by signing a one-year deal with the New York Islanders. This was after the 29-year-old defenseman mutually terminated his contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL on Jan. 14.

DeAngelo is making an impact early with the Islanders, and this was especially the case in the club’s Feb. 1 matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
After Lightning superstar Nikita Kucherov forced overtime with a late third-period goal, DeAngelo scored the OT winner to secure the Islanders two much-needed points.
DeAngelo’s OT winner was a beauty, too. Shortly after coming off the bench, DeAngelo received a long pass from Bo Horvat, which led to a breakaway. From there, DeAngelo beat Andrei Vasilevskiy with a perfectly placed wrist shot to get his first goal as an Islander.
This was undoubtedly a good way for DeAngelo to make an impression with his new club. In four games with the Islanders, he now has one goal, one assist, and a plus-4 rating.
