Jonathan Quick’s stellar performance helped propel the New York Rangers to a 4-0 victory over the Nashville Predators on Sunday night.
It was a hectic weekend for the Rangers as the team traded Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
The two players the Rangers got in return Juuso Parssinen and Calvin de Haan made their Blueshirts debut against the Predators while Brett Berard returned to the lineup after being called up from The Hartford Wolf Pack.
Through the first 40 minutes, the Rangers were dominant. New York’s fast-paced style threw Nashville off guard.
Artemi Panarin opened the scoring in the first period and the Rangers broke the game wide open in the second period with goals from J.T. Miller and K’Andre Miller.
Berard put the icing on top of the cake with a goal of his own late in the third period.
When the Rangers were desperately attempting to hold their lead in the third period, it was Quick who stole the show as he earned his third shutout of the season, finishing the night with 35 saves.
Not to mention, it also happened to be Quick’s 800th NHL game.
“I think he’s been one guy that never stops battling in there,” Peter Laviolette said of Jonathan Quick. “That’s what makes him great. When he needs to be in control, he’s in control. Sometimes it tends to be scramble mode in there and he’s able to find it, read it and come up with it.”
Father time is undefeated except for when it comes to Quick. The 39-year-old goalie is still in command and can play at an elite level whenever he’s called upon.
To the awe of his teammates, Quick is just as athletic at 39-years-old as most NHL goalies are in their prime years.
“It’s crazy how athletic he is still at this age – just his ability to make those crazy, acrobatic saves, and just gets up like nothing happened,” Jonny Brodzinski said. “He’s in these splits with four guys laying on top of him, and he just pops right back up.”
The Rangers will be back in action on Monday night against the New York Islanders.
