When Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska named his starting lineup for a Thursday night contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning, he opted to start his second line, featuring Blake Coleman.
The 33-year-old from Plano, TX, is skating in his 600th NHL game against his former team, who won two Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021.
Initially drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the third-round (75th overall) at the 2011 Draft, Coleman debuted at 25 during the 2016-17 season. After 237 games, where he came a two-time 20-goal scorer, he was traded from New Jersey to Tampa Bay for Nolan Foote and a first-round pick.
Although he never regained his 20-goal scoring touch with the Lightning, scoring just 14 goals in 64 games, he scored 24 points in 48 playoff games, winning a championship in his two seasons in Tampa Bay.
As a free agent in 2021, Coleman signed a six-year deal worth $29.4 million with the Flames. During the 2023-24 season, he set career highs with 30 goals and 54 points while being plus-19.
After the 2024-25 season, Coleman will have two years left on his deal, and has scored 76 goals and 154 points in 298 games with Calgary. Before Thursday night’s contest, he skated in 237 games with New Jersey, 64 in Tampa Bay, and 299 with the Flames.
His next game will make him the 68th player in Flames history to skate in 300 games.
