The Calgary Flames recently announced that veteran defenseman Tyson Barrie would be sent down to the AHL for a conditioning stint.
Barrie practiced with the Calgary Wranglers on Friday and was grateful for the opportunity to get back on the ice and hopefully get into some games.
However, according to early pre-game notes for the Wranglers’ Saturday contest against the San Diego Gulls, he’s not in the lineup.
“It’s nice to get out there with the guys and get in the mix.”

As a free agent, Barrie agreed to a contract with the Flames on Oct. 3 and played in nine of the team’s first 17 games, scoring a goal, before becoming a healthy scratch after Nov. 12.
Interestingly, he hasn’t skated in the AHL since the 2013-14 season when he was with the Lake Erie Monsters. In his limited time in the minors, 93 games, Barrie has scored 12 goals and 64 points.
Initially a third round pick (64th overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in 2009, he’s played 818 NHL games with 110 goals, 397 assists, and 507 points.
Historically, Barrie is the 57th player for both Alberta teams, having skated with the Edmonton Oilers from 2021-2023. He’s also dressed from the Nashville Predators and Toronto Maple Leafs.
