The NHL announced their three stars of the month for December, with former Calgary Flames netminder Jacob Markström (New Jersey Devils) earning third star honors behind Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche) and Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers).
In his first season with the Devils, Markström, acquired from the Flames in June 2024, helped the team become one of the top teams in the Metropolitan Division. He produced an 8-1-1 record in December with a 1.30 GAA and .937 SV% with back-to-back shutouts.
Meanwhile, the Devils finished the month with an 8-4-1 record and remain in a heated competition with the Washington Capitals for the top spot.
During Markström’s ten games in December, he surrendered two or fewer goals in nine, giving up a monthly high of three to the Anaheim Ducks on New Year’s Eve.
Meanwhile, on Dec. 21, he had a 12-save shutout over the Pittsburgh Penguins and two nights later blanked the New York Rangers with another 12-save shutout.
After three months in a New Jersey sweater, Markström ranks second in the NHL with 19 wins while producing the league’s second-best GAA at 2.15.
