Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson will be the team’s lone representative at the upcoming 4 Nations Face-off in February 2025.
However, he’ll be reunited with a former teammate on Team Sweden and compete against four others with several past Flames players selected for the tournament.
Although Calgary fans will only have one skater to cheer for, here’s a look at who else will be there and the impact they could have on their respective teams.
Elias Lindholm (Boston Bruins) – Team Sweden
Elias Lindholm spent six years with the Flames, producing his best season as an NHLer in 2021-22 with 42 goals and 82 points. He departed the club last season in a trade to the Vancouver Canucks.
As a free agent in July 2024, he signed with the Boston Bruins and is off to a slow start (13 points) with his new club.
Noah Hanifin (Vegas Golden Knights) – Team USA
Noah Hanifin is another former Flames player who spent six seasons with the club. At last season’s trade deadline, the team flipped him to the Vegas Golden Knights, where he signed a lucrative extension and avoided free agency.
As one of the top four defensemen in Vegas, Hanifin has 12 points through 28 games this season.
Sam Bennett (Florida Panthers) – Team Canada
Sam Bennett was a Calgary first-round draft pick who played with the team for seven seasons before being traded to the Florida Panthers in April 2021. Last season, he won the Stanley Cup and became a two-time 20-goal scorer.

Through 28 games this season, Bennett has 26 points and is on pace for a 76-point campaign, which would be a career-high, as he approaches free agency next summer.
Juuso Välimäki (Utah Hockey Club) – Team Finland
Juuso Välimäki is another former Flames first-round pick who played only 82 games with the team over three seasons before the Arizona Coyotes claimed him off waivers in October 2022.
Now a member of the Utah Hockey Club, the 26-year-old defenseman already has two goals this season and is on pace to break his personal best of four, set in 2022-23.
Matthew Tkachuk (Florida Panthers) – Team USA
Matthew Tkachuk needs no introduction to Flames fans. He is one of the last players to collect 100 points in a season with the team, and he now plies his trade in sunny Florida, where he hoisted the Stanley Cup last season.
As one of the top players for Team USA, Matthew will play alongside his brother Brady (Ottawa Senators), representing their home country as a pair for the first time.
