The Los Angeles Kings begin a quick two-game homestand against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
LA return home after a five-game road trip where they recorded four out-of-a-possible ten points.
In their last five games, Pittsburgh went 1-4-0, being outscored 10-20.
This is the second and final meeting of the regular season between the Kings and Penguins. Pittsburgh picked up a 3-2 overtime victory, at home, on December 17, 2024.
TURCY vs. PENGUIN
In the overtime loss on December 17, 2024, Kings Forward Alex Turcotte finished the game with one goal and a +1 rating.
After the game, Kings Head Coach Jim Hiller complimented Turcotte saying it was, “a great goal. […] It’s a goal scorer’s goal. You love to see it from a guy like Turc.”
This season, Turcotte has been paired with Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe in twenty-eight games. That line has produced the most goals for the Kings with fourteen.
“I’m trying to help him be as comfortable as he can playing alongside [myself and Anze Kopitar]. When I was young, I came up playing with older guys. You could be a little nervous and all that kind of stuff but he’s been really good. I’m trying to get him to be as comfortable as he can on the Wing, making plays, all that kind of stuff. And he’s been great over the last couple weeks.” – Adrian Kempe on Alex Turcotte, December 17, 2024
PENGUIN SOME, LOSE SOME
Members of the NHL’s 1967 expansion, the Penguins and the Kings first faced one another back on November 28, 1967, the Kings picking up a 5-3 victory.
Historically, it’s been a fairly even matchup, with Pittsburgh holding an all-time record of 70-77-18-4 against LA. In that span, the Penguins have recorded five hundred nineteen goals to LA’s five hundred sixty-seven.
In their last five meetings, the Penguins are 3-2-0 against the Kings with two overtime victories.
GIVING PITTS THE FITS
Kings Forward Adrian Kempe enters this contest riding a four-game goal scoring streak against the Penguins, putting up eight in that span.
In thirteen career matchups against the Penguins, Kempe has recorded fourteen points (9G, 5A) and a +7 rating. He’s been held without a point just three times.
