The Senators have the top-four defenseman they have looking for.
Ottawa made a deal with Arizona on Wednesday night, trading for Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun. The 26-year-old had been in trade rumors for nearly two years, but finally got moved ahead of the 2023 deadline to the Senators.
Chychrun hasn’t played since Feb. 10. Arizona had been holding him out for trade-related reasons. The 2016 first-round pick skated in 36 games for the Coyotes, posting seven goals, 21 assists and 28 points while averaging a career-high 23:16 time on ice. He also contributed 56 blocked shots and 43 hits.
The Senators play Thursday in New York against the Rangers. Will Chychrun be available to play? Here’s the latest on his status.

If Chychrun does suit up, both he and Patrick Kane would be making their debuts for their new teams at MSG. Kane was acquired by the Rangers on Tuesday but did not play in the Wednesday game against the Flyers. He is expected to play against the Senators.
