Ahead of their game against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night, the New York Islanders placed defenseman Mike Reilly on injured reserve, per the team’s media site.
Reilly suffered what appeared to be a concussion in the Islanders’ 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Nov. 1 after being knocked unconscious following a hit from Sabres forward Jordan Greenway in the second period:
With a new roster spot created, the Islanders have recalled 24-year-old defenseman Travis Mitchell.
The Missouri native was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Cornell late in the 2022-23 season.
Through eight games with Bridgeport, Mitchell has a goal and two assists, a player who plays a simple defensive game like Grant Hutton.
He is likely to serve as the club’s seventh defenseman until Alexander Romanov (day-to-day), who is on the trip practicing in a non-contact jersey, is ready to return.
